About

Korea now has more foreign residents than at any point in its history. Most of them arrive with practical questions. The answers exist in official sources — but only in Korean.

Explained Korea exists to close that gap. This site takes information from Korean government agencies, official statistics, and public policy documents and explains it in plain English — accurately, without agenda.

Who writes this

This site is written and maintained by a Korean national living in Korea. No byline, no personal brand — just the work. The goal isn’t visibility; it’s usefulness.

What this site does and doesn’t do

  • Every figure on this site is sourced directly from Korean government agencies — NTS (국세청), KOSIS, NHIS, MOLIT, and others. When official data is updated, the relevant posts are revised. If something is uncertain, it’s marked as such.
  • This is not legal or financial advice. For individual situations, consult a licensed professional in Korea.

Who this is for

Foreign professionals working in Korea, long-term residents, people considering a move to Korea, and anyone trying to understand how Korea actually works — from taxes and housing to healthcare and work culture.
